Is Leafwell Legit Or A Scam? Personal Reviews 2024

ARE YOU TRYING TO GET YOUR MEDICAL MARIJUANA CARD AND WONDERING IF LEAFWELL IS LEGIT OR A SCAM?

For years I’ve thought about registering to get my medical marijuana card, but I’ve put it off over and over again because I thought there would be a laundry list of things to do. Whether it was trips to the doctor’s, filling out forms, registering for this database, etc., it just seemed like a lot of work.

Instead, I could just drive to the recreational dispensary and pick up a few ounces of weed.

But as soon as we moved away from Colorado, finding high-quality marijuana was more difficult. And soon, it was evident just how important cannabis was to my well-being.

While we spend a lot of our time growing our own cannabis, there are downtimes when our plants aren’t ready yet, and having a cannabis card for my medical conditions seemed logical.

And that’s when I found out about Leafwell.

Over the past two weeks, I’ve worked with Leafwell and my state to acquire my medical marijuana card, and this blog post is a review of my personal experience.

Is Leafwell Legit For Medical Marijuana Cards or a Scam?

When I started to search for information about obtaining my medical marijuana card, I immediately found Leafwell and several other companies. I decided to go with Leafwell as they seemed to be the most professional, and their blog posts were incredibly helpful.

I also wondered if Leafwell was truly legit or if it was another scam website waiting for people to take their bait. But after reading tons of positive reviews about Leafwell, I decided to give it a shot.

My medical marijuana acceptance letter from my state after using Leafwell's service. 5 star reviews.

Coming from someone who used Leafwell’s service as recently as September 2023, they are completely legit and very helpful. For anyone that reports Leafwell as a “scam”, I’d have to wonder whether they truly used their service or if they are trying to drag a high-quality company through the mud for their own gain.

I’ll continue with my honest review of Leafwell below, but I think it’s important that you know what services they offer so that you have something to reference when reading about our experience.

What does Leafwell offer?

Leafwell has two main offers:

  • Online medical marijuana card
  • Online cannabis guidance sessions

Online Medical Marijuana Card

The most popular service that Leafwell offers is assistance with online medical marijuana cards. Basically, Leafwell will walk you through the steps of receiving a medical marijuana card in your state (if applicable). This includes connecting you with their recommended doctors for online appointments.

Once you’ve met with their recommended doctor, you’ll receive instructions on how to register as a medical marijuana patient in your state.

If this sounds at all intimidating, just wait until the next section of this post because I’ll walk you through the process step-by-step. It really was one of the easiest things I’ve done, and I know the process will be for you, too.

Online Cannabis Guidance Sessions

Another service that Leafwell provides is its guidance sessions. Truthfully, I didn’t have a guidance session as I’m very familiar with weed and know which strains are right for me.

However, if you are a cannabis novice looking to get your medical marijuana card, I highly recommend speaking to a professional about which strains will work best for your symptoms and conditions.

Personally, I know how damaging it can be to take marijuana for the first time and feel anxious or paranoid. Many who try weed for the first time aren’t guided properly, resulting in a poor experience.

Unfortunately, those who have a poor experience might not give the plant another try. This is a mistake because there are so many medical benefits to this herb.

With that, if you’re nervous about dosing, which strain works best for you, or how to relieve specific symptoms, Leafwell’s cannabis guidance sessions might be for you.

Our Honest Leafwell Review: Why Trust Us?

With so many websites relying heavily on AI, it’s difficult to know who is being authentic and who is copying and pasting what a robot tells them. For this reason, we at The Highly Informed rely heavily on personal experience.

Not only did we go through all of the steps of getting our medical marijuana cards through Leafwell, but we also sat through several consultations with pharmacists at our local dispensaries, too. We really wanted to paint a full picture for our readers so that you can completely trust our personal advice.

How much does Leafwell cost?

The amount you’ll pay for Leafwell will vary depending on the type of service you’re looking at and the state you’re registering for.

For example, here are some common prices for Leafwell’s MMJ (medical marijuana card) approval process:

  • Minnesota: $149
  • New Mexico: $99
  • Mississippi: $199
  • Colorado: Unavailable

They also frequently give discounts, which are available through their email newsletters. In fact, Leafwell recently sent us a discount code to share with our readers. If you’d like to save $10 on your Leafwell purchase, use our discount code: HIGHLY10

On the other hand, Leafwell’s cannabis consulting services start at $69 per session. In my opinion, if you can nail down the marijuana strain that fits your needs perfectly, this is a very reasonably priced service.

How long will it take to get my medical marijuana card with Leafwell?

This was another concern of mine: how long will Leafwell’s process take? When will I actually get my marijuana card? I thought it would take at least a month to get things completely straightened out, but I was pleasantly surprised.

From start to finish, it took me 5 days to get approved and fully registered with my state for medical cannabis. This is all thanks to Leafwell and how easy their instructions and database are for potential patients.

Here’s a breakdown of how long it took for me to get my MMJ card through Leafwell:

  • September 2nd, 2023: Filled out basic information about my symptoms and booked my appointment with Leafwell’s recommended doctor. This step took approximately 3 minutes total.
  • September 5th, 2023: Met with the recommended Leafwell doctor. Since I had filled out the basic information, this call lasted less than a minute, and I was instantly approved.

That same day (September 5th), I was sent additional instructions from Leafwell, who walked me through the remainder of the process in my state. I filled out and submitted the small bit of information my state asked for, including a picture of my driver’s license. That took approximately 5-7 minutes.

  • September 7th, 2023: Minnesota approved my cannabis registration form. Immediately upon approval, I’m legally able to purchase medical cannabis from dispensaries in Minnesota and many other states.

To reiterate, I was blown away by how quick and easy this process was. If you’re looking to get approved for medical marijuana, Leafwell is truly a fantastic option.

Is Leafwell secure?

If you plan on using Leafwell to help you get your medical marijuana card, you will need to take out a payment method like a credit card or debit card to make a purchase on their website.

While I can’t speak for everyone, we had a smooth process when paying for their service. The entire system was professional, and I felt really confident giving them my private information. I think you will also experience this with Leafwell.

Is it easy to get a medical card through Leafwell?

Based on my experience, it was very easy to get my medical marijuana card from Leafwell. Here is additional info about my experience:

Time: It took a total of 5 days
Requirements: A qualifying medical condition*, my driver’s license, a credit card for payment, a computer for the video call (although the doctor just called me over the phone)
Calls: Two calls – one call with the doctor to be approved for my qualifying medical condition and one call with a pharmacist from the local dispensary (this might not be applicable for you in your state). Both calls lasted less than one minute.

I would be shocked if you found a service provider that can get you results so efficiently. Using Leafwell’s service was straightforward and helpful every step of the way.

*There are many, many qualifying conditions, but this does depend on your state laws. I’m assuming many clients use “chronic pain” to label their qualifying condition.

Does Leafwell have good customer support?

You’ll likely spend very little time using Leafwell’s service because the process is so simple. But to make sure I could deliver the best information for our readers, I did get on a call with a team member of Leafwell.

He was very responsive to my questions and assured us that they strive for excellence in customer service. This felt genuine, and anytime I’ve emailed them, they’ve answered within a few hours.

Does Leafwell have an honest refund policy?

Leafwell offers their customers a full refund if you are not approved for a MMJ card. For example, if you don’t have a qualifying condition, you won’t be accepted. In this case, they wouldn’t issue you a doctor’s referral, and you would get your money back.

After reading many reviews, it doesn’t seem like they have many rejected clients (which is awesome), but those who were rejected state that they received their money back promptly.

Other helpful Leafwell resources

Let’s face it: there are many services like Leafwell on the internet. So why use Leafwell? What makes Leafwell different from other companies other than delivering a quality service at a fast rate?

On Leafwell’s website, you’ll find their blog section full of helpful information about medical marijuana laws in various states. I was particularly surprised to see a section that talked about acquiring cannabis when traveling to other states outside your own. This is useful when road-tripping, especially in states that haven’t legalized weed for recreational use.

How To Get A Medical Marijuana Card Through Leafwell: Step-By-Step

So you’ve decided to get your medical marijuana card, and you want to use Leafwell to make the process quick and painless. Here’s what I did to get approved for my cannabis prescription with Leafwell in 5 days*:

*I cannot promise that every state will be as quick as Minnesota. The time it will take varies on a case-by-case basis.

Step #1: Open Leafwell’s website

Click “Get Your Card” in the top right corner. If you’re on a mobile device, click the menu button in the right corner. At the bottom of the menu, click “Get Your Card”.

Step #2: Select Your State + Fill Out Info

Next, you’ll choose your state and continue to fill out your email and cell phone number. Accept the terms and conditions, and you’re onto the next step.

Step #3: Complete The Easy Steps

The next two steps are simple. You must fill out information about your qualifying condition. This is basic information, so don’t let this documentation intimidate you.

Come prepared with your photo ID because you’ll need this to complete the steps, too. I simply took a picture of my driver’s license lying on my table and uploaded it.

Registering for a medical marijuana card with Leafwell - first step.

In total, it took me 4 minutes to finish these steps from start to finish.

Step #4: Schedule An Appointment With Their Recommended Doctor

This is where I started to feel a bit nervous. I didn’t necessarily want to talk to a doctor, especially on a video call. But I felt that I really did qualify and that having a MMJ card could come in handy if our plants weren’t ready to harvest.

The call didn’t happen on a video call, after all. He simply called me on my cell phone, I answered, we talked for a very, very small amount of time, and I was approved.

A picture of my appointment booked with a doctor from Leafwell.

I believe this is how most appointments go since they do a prescreening with the steps I mentioned above.

NOTE: I fully expected them to call me on my computer through video call, so I almost left my phone in the bedroom. Be sure to keep your phone by your side in case they call over the phone.

Step #5: Register For Your Medical Marijuana Card In Your State

From here, you’ll just need to register with your state to receive your medical card.

Instructions for how and when you need to register with your state for your cannabis card.

Take note that your state will have different requirements to qualify for a medical card. These requirements could be anything like the following:

  • Driver’s license
  • Address matching the state
  • Payment*
  • Application

*Our state (Minnesota) did not require payment. All MMJ requirements vary state by state, so be sure to check your state’s requirements.

Instructions for how to get your weed card from the state of Minnesota.

Luckily, Leafwell takes care of the most challenging part of the process: getting approved by a doctor. Therefore, registering with your state is pretty easy and quick.

Step #6: Wait For Approval From Your State

After you register as a medical marijuana patient with your state, sit back and relax. Many states take anywhere from 30 to 60 days to turn around a response. My state (Minnesota) told me it would take approximately three to four weeks to hear back about my registration, but it took a total of two days after I applied.

My application submitted to my state for my medical marijuana card.

You’ll be able to keep up with your application online through your state’s website but keep in mind it could take some time. Be diligent and know that your response is coming, and as long as you have a doctor’s recommendation, you will likely be able to register without issue.

Step #7: Get Your Acceptance* & Patient ID

As I mentioned, it took me two days total to receive a response from my state via email. My medical marijuana registration was accepted without a problem, and I was immediately issued a patient ID online.

I didn’t receive a card in the mail with my patient ID (or at least I haven’t yet, and it has been three weeks), but most dispensaries just expect you to type in your ID online when ordering at their store.

You will need to show the dispensary your ID that matches the name on your patient account, but most dispensaries don’t require a physical card of any sort. This was something I thought before I decided to apply.

Step #8: How To Find A Cannabis Dispensary Near You & Helpful Tips

I told ya it was easy to get your medical weed card with Leafwell, wasn’t it?

The only thing left to do is locate the dispensaries near you and find the best options for your needs. Consider what you’re looking for as far as benefits and effects. Here are some tips to help you find a dispensary and the kind of products that might be most helpful for you:

  • Most dispensaries offer first-time visitor promotions. Be sure to check the dispensaries’ websites before visiting to find the best deals.
  • Test out several dispensaries in your area to get a taste of what they offer. This is also a great way to save money, as you can take advantage of first-timer deals.
  • Try different ways of consuming your cannabis. If you are used to eating edibles, consider trying a preroll joint or tincture to see what works best for you. I’ve found that smoking is easier to manage and monitor than eating edibles.
  • There are two types of weed: Indica and Sativa. These types of cannabis produce different effects.
  • Sativa is known for creating a light, airy head high. Users love Sativa for sparking creativity and staying focused. However, beware of Sativa’s sneaky paranoia effect. It can be intense.
  • Indica creates a body high that helps you relax. If you’re looking to sleep better, Indica might be the answer, as it’s also known to put people to sleep quickly. A first-time user of marijuana? I recommend Indica first!

Additional Leafwell Reviews From Others

But let’s be honest… my awesome experience with Leafwell definitely deserves a great write up. But what do the other reviews say about Leafwell? Are they positive? Negative?

I spent a few hours digging into other reviews of Leafwell, and here’s an average of what I found:

Leafwell Google Review #1

From the moment I began my application to the instant I received approval from the state, the process was seamless, efficient, and incredibly user-friendly. I was able to speak to their representatives on the phone and via email whenever I needed to get my questions answered. They even helped me with questions I had with my state application that they didn’t have to answer.

Their healthcare providers are knowledgeable and compassionate in my experience. I was genuinely impressed by how easy and straightforward it was to get approved. For anyone seeking a hassle-free experience with MMJ cards, Leafwell is the gold standard. Highly recommended!

Leafwell Google Review

I read through hundreds of reviews to find anything negative about Leafwell. Here were a few complaints I found:

  • When Leafwell calls you for your appointment, their phone number could show up as spam, potentially causing confusion
  • The website can have a few glitches here and there

These were the only negative reviews I could find about Leafwell, and they were rare. The issues mentioned in these negative reviews seemed to be easily solvable, and I personally didn’t experience this at all with Leafwell.

More FAQs

By this point, you’ve learned a lot about Leafwell and how to acquire your medical marijuana card. But there were a few points I missed out on. Here are some more frequently asked questions about their service:

Do I need to pay another fee to get my medical marijuana card after using Leafwell?

I was concerned about an additional cost of a medical marijuana card. I knew that Leafwell charged a service fee, but I wasn’t sure if my state required a payment, too.

Minnesota's requirements for medical marijuana patients.

Luckily, Minnesota does not require patients to pay a fee to get registered as medical marijuana card holders. That said, many states do require a fee.

One of the best resources for finding information about whether or not your state asks for a fee is Leafwell. Check out their helpful blog section and use their service to become registered quickly.

Will my insurance cover my Leafwell fee?

Unfortunately, cannabis is still considered illegal at the federal level in the United States as of January 2024. That means insurance companies cannot cover Leafwell’s fee or the marijuana you purchase from the dispensary. This will need to be self-funded.

Does Leafwell sell marijuana online?

This is a common misunderstanding; many people assume that Leafwell distributes, grows, and/or sells marijuana online. This is incorrect. Leafwell is simply a platform that connects medical providers with potential medical marijuana patients to help them get approved for a card.

A picture of my order at a local dispensary after getting my MMJ through Leafwell.

Once you’ve used Leafwell’s service, you will likely be able to order cannabis online from your nearest dispensary and pick it up in person. I was able to make an order and pick up cannabis within hours of getting my medical marijuana card.

Important Note: Certain medical dispensaries require their patients to speak with a pharmacist before ordering their cannabis. The first dispensary I went to in Minnesota made me do this; it was an easy and short call. The pharmacist was very friendly, didn’t ask any weird questions, and allowed me to choose what I felt was best for my needs based on my own knowledge.
